Course Overview:

Root canal procedures have been easier to manage yet have become more complicated due to technological advancements and increased knowledge of root canal systems in general. With the introduction of NiTi into dentistry and the development of different file designs from the manufacturers, the dental clinician has been able to provide conventional routine endodontics in office at increasingly efficient rates. In addition, clinicians are now aware and concerned of microbes at the apex as well as the complex anatomy of the root canal system. The dental clinician’s job has become mechanically easier yet biologically more difficult; however, utilizing technology such as NiTi, CBCT imaging, and irrigation solutions can aid in the success of endodontic therapy. This course will deal with the complexity of locating canals, choosing methods to mechanically instrumenting 80-90% of teeth in an efficient manner, biologically cleansing the entire root canal system, and hermetically sealing the apex and canal system to prevent failure.
Learning Objectives:

1) Gain tips for accessing, locating, and negotiating canals
2) Understand the rationale behind the utilization of hybrid techniques and perform them in a clinical setting
3) Understand biologic objectives and disinfection of the root canal system

Content Topic Areas
1) Demonstration of accessing extracted teeth and showing tips on how to locate 4th canal
2) Participants: Hands-on full instrumentation and complete irrigation and disinfection of extracted teeth
3) Participants: Hands-on obturation and sealing of the root canal system
